HOW LONG DOES THE COFFEE STAY FRESH? 


 We often get asked about the effect of our FairChain principle—roasting in the country of origin—on coffee freshness.

Our goal? Coffee at your door within 8 to 12 weeks after roasting.

We do everything to keep it fresh and high quality. Here's how:

Green beans can be stored, but they lose flavor over time.

Moyee controls the whole process—once beans reach our wet mills, they are roasted immediately.

Most Dutch roasters use beans that have been in transit or storage for months or even years.

With us, it's just days. Freshness, guaranteed. ✅

🛡️ Nitro Flush for Protection

Right after roasting, we seal the beans in nitrogen-flushed bags—removing all oxygen.

No oxygen = no oxidation = longer freshness.

Your beans stay delicious in the bag for years. 😍

WHERE SHOULD I STORE MY COFFEE?

WHERE DOES THE NAME MOYEE COME FROM?


 Some say Mo-yi, others Mo-ja, or even Moji.

Say what you like, but know this: Moyee means “mortar” in Amharic (Ethiopian language).

In Ethiopia, coffee is hand-ground using a mortar—not fancy machines.

This tool symbolizes the economic divide between producers and consumers.

That’s why we named our brand Moyee—to change that divide.

(Oh, and it’s pronounced Mo-yeah! 😉)

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FAIRCHAIN AND FAIRTRADE?


 Fairtrade is a noble concept 🙌 — it ensures local entrepreneurs receive a minimum price in exchange for growing and exporting their green coffee beans. It’s a solid first step… but let’s be real: the impact is limited.

Fairtrade helps reduce poverty, but only at a small scale. We believe it’s time to think bigger, to make radical change.

That’s why we built FairChain. 💥

We’re a 50/50 enterprise, which means Moyee and our local partners each own half the business. They handle the roasting, we handle the selling — together, we create a real production-consumption partnership. No middlemen, no nonsense. Just radically good coffee with shared value every step of the way. 🔄💚

HOW ECO-FRIENDLY IS YOUR COFFEE? 


 Growing ☀️🌱

Our coffee plants grow forest-shielded—which means they grow among other plants like guava and banana trees. This biodiversity keeps the soil rich and healthy. We work directly with farmers and train them to work with nature. That means: no pesticides 🚫, and no need to burn forests for new harvests when you care for the soil properly.

Processing 🔄🌍

The way coffee is processed has a big impact on both taste and the environment. From sun-dried to washed coffee, each method has different water usage, energy consumption, and CO₂ output. To lower our footprint, we invested in a cutting-edge wet mill that allows us to process beans in a super eco-friendly way—even without using water. We’ve also swapped out our diesel generator for solar panels ☀️⚡️.

Planting 🌳✨

In coffee-growing regions like Ethiopia and Kenya, trees are often cut down because coffee doesn’t pay enough or there’s no money to manage the land sustainably. But with our 1 Million Tree Revolution, we’re flipping the script. Through Moyee tree planting, more trees are staying up (hello, CO₂ absorption!) and farmers get those trees to support a living income.

So yeah—we’re not just good for the economy and social impact, but we’re also keeping Mother Nature in mind 💚🌍.

ARE YOUR COFFEE BAGS RECYCLABLE?


 Not quite Antarctica-proof yet 😉. Our bags contain a light air- and moisture-proof aluminum layer to keep the coffee fresh and tasty. BUT! The bags sold at Albert Heijn are 100% recyclable. That’s the direction we’re aiming for with all our packaging, including the ones ordered online.

IS YOUR COFFEE ORGANIC?


 We’ve been getting this question a lot lately! Our Triple and Dark roasts were already basically organic, so we chased that official certification. To get it, the entire chain needs to be certified—not just the farmers, but also transport and logistics. And guess what? We did it 🙌

Our first certified organic shipment is now in circulation! For a little while, you’ll see both versions of the Triple (certified and not) in rotation while we transition.

Fun fact: our coffee always grows forest-shielded, which means it’s nestled between guava and banana plants—super biodiverse, super fertile 🌿. Working directly with farmers means we can train them on eco-friendly farming, no pesticides, no forest burning. Just good farming.

And yep, it takes three years before a coffee plant yields its first harvest—so a lot of care goes in before farmers enjoy the fruits of their labor ❤️

Bottom line? It’s good for the planet, for people, and for your cup.

 We've made it super flexible—you’re in control! 🙌 Your subscription is ongoing, but you can pause or cancel it anytime with just the click of a button (okay, technically a dropdown menu in your account, but that sounds less cool 😅).

Want to fully stop your subscription? This is possible in the subscriptions menu, you can click the button close subscription or just give us a quick call or send us an email. Honestly, we’ll be a bit heartbroken 💔—so you might need to comfort us a little 😢.

When you subscribe, we set up a direct debit for easy and secure payments via SEPA 💳. If you'd like to update your payment method, simply head to the Subscription menu. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and you'll see Payment Methods.

From there, just click Add Payment Method, and you can choose a new payment option that works best for you.

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY PAYMENT FAILS?


Not enough in the piggy bank or just unlucky timing?

It happens to the best of us! No stress — if your payment fails, we’ll still send out your coffee. ☕🐷

However, your subscription will be paused. That means you won’t receive another order until the outstanding balance is paid and your subscription is reactivated. We can always help with this, so feel free to reach out!

If you place your order on a weekday before 15:00, your package will be delivered the very next day (unless it’s a public holiday 🎉). No deliveries on Sundays or Mondays. Sometimes things might take a bit longer, but our team works hard to get your coffee to you as fast as possible ☕💨

 Delivery comes at a price—but we’ve optimized our shipping chain to keep it as affordable as possible for you. And thanks to that efficiency, we haven’t raised the price of our coffee in 10 years! 🎉👏

WHY DO YOU SELL YOUR COFFEE AT ALBERT HEIJN?


Albert Heijn is the biggest supermarket chain in the Netherlands and connects us with millions of coffee lovers we might not reach otherwise ☕💙. They really embraced our mission — and even invested in our success. Pretty awesome, right?

Sure, Albert Heijn has been named the most sustainable supermarket in the country… but let’s be real, we stay a little skeptical 👀. They still sell cheap, unsustainable products. But we're focusing on the future — helping them turn small steps into giant leaps.

So no, it’s not about being pro-retail. It’s about standing up to the unfair coffee chain that seriously needs a shake-up 🚀.

DO OUR FRIENDS IN KENYA EARN LESS FROM OUR AH COFFEE?


Nope. Our local partners and farmers earn exactly the same as they would from any other Moyee FairChain coffee. The only ones earning a bit less from this partnership? That’d be us 😅. But we made that call intentionally. 

We’re betting on higher volumes at AH — and we’re using our Kenyan coffee to launch our blockchain platform that shows exactly who earns what in the coffee chain 💰🔗.

 

IS IT BETTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT TO BUY YOUR COFFEE AT ALBERT HEIJN INSTEAD OF ORDERING ONLINE?


Great question 🌍. Less transport = better for the planet. So yes, on paper it might seem more eco-friendly to grab your Moyee at AH. But there’s a twist — our coffee first goes to a distribution center before reaching the shelves.

Our webshop, on the other hand, ships directly — often using electric vans and bikes 🚚⚡🚴. So it’s not all black and white. Both routes are pretty thoughtful — the choice is yours 💚.

 

WHICH ALBERT HEIJN STORES CARRY MOYEE?


That depends! Each AH location picks its own assortment, so we don’t have full control over where we land. But you’ll mostly find us in the XL stores. Filter coffee? That one sometimes pops up in smaller locations too

Oh no, it’s sad to see you go! 😢 We can’t watch, but if you’re sure about deleting your account, you can do so under Connection and Security. Scroll to the bottom of the page, and you’ll find the option to Delete Your Account.

We really hope you have second thoughts, but if not, we’ll make it as easy as possible for you. 💔
