Sweetness of grapefruit, aftertaste of caramel
About 190 km south of Nairobi and 8 km from Kerugoya, the Mutira Farmers’ Cooperative Society comprises about 4,000 smallholder farmers, each owning about 180 coffee trees. Lately, a lot of effort has been made to plant shade trees and thus combat climate change in that region. The berries are pulped on an Aagard disc puler and ground in Central Kenya Coffee Mills.

Roasted by 'the Master'
Moyee’s head roaster, Jose Mollura, travelled to Kenya a few months ago and brought a few hundred kilos of these mighty fine beans back to the Netherlands. Due to the region’s high altitude, Jose used a ‘hard bean’ profile that requires more heat at the beginning of roasting, to crack the hard shell and then continue to slowly roast it. In total, he roasted the Kerugoya Microlot for 14.5 minutes.
